"Dance first. Think later. It's the natural order." ~ Samual Beckett

Here at Southern Virginia University I'm a member of the Dance Company. I've never really been a full time member because of cheerleading. I'd be in and out of practice and never performed really with them until Spring when cheerleading was over. Which kinda sucks.

I like cheer but I love dance. So I've always been torn. But just a few weeks ago I quit cheer. I actually did it. Cheer wasn't fun anymore and I felt more useful in Dance Company than cheer. In DC I'm a choreographer, a teacher, and I get to DANCE. Cheer practice was like a cat fight everyday. Someone was mad at someone for something and you had to pick sides. It. Was. So. Dumb.

I went to college to get away from the high school drama, and there it was. This person is mad at this person cause of what this person said about some other person did. Gah! I snapped at the squad and I think I made some kind've impact on them. They seemed to get the idea that they we're being stupid. A couple days later we had our last football game, and the whole time I just wanted to leave. After the game, I told my coach I was out, turned in my uniform. Best. Decision. Ever. My grades improved, I feel like I have more hours in the day, and it's  amazing.

I do miss cheer a little bit... Well.. I miss stunting. That was really fun, and I felt like a beast too. Oh well, now I can keep up my technique and skills for dance, which will be nice since I'm supposed to do some dance audition at the end of January. If I ever get my transcripts in... I should get on that....

SO ANYWAY! Dance company is awesome now, because the girls just performed a hip hop choreographed by me! It was a mash up of Taio Cruz's song Dynamite and Flo Rida's Club Can't Handle Me.

They performed it at the first home basketball game. It actually went a lot better than I expected, the whole 5 minutes before they performed I felt so nervous. I felt like I was the team's Coach or something. Now I know what it's like to be a dance team coach for a brief 5 minutes. Thinking about it now, I could totally be a High School dance team coach! Hmmm maybe someday...

This wasn't the first time Dance Company performed one of my hip hop routines, the first was for the spring show and Fading Point's concert. The dance was to Freeze by T-Pain, featuring Chris Brown. It went really well too! I hope I keep getting better and better at choreographing. I really like it. Hopefully my next piece will be something different!

[Here's an awesome picture of my hair (It totally doesn't look that anymore, this picture is about 8 months old) I like how it's all over my face.Yeah.. I'm kinda known for my "hairography" or whatever you wanna call it.]

"The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music. Bodies never lie." ~ Agnes de Mille

Here's a dance that just..well.. feels groovy :)

Michael Jackson's P.Y.T.
(One of my personal favorites by Michael Jackson)

My best friend Jenny and I about over a year ago started playing around with the song for fun. We're both dancers and love LOVE choreographing. Just a little over a week ago I had to prepare a Hip Hop class for an open house at school for whatever reason I'm not sure...
It was an hour before the class was supposed to start and I pretty much had nothing to teach. So I pulled the little bit that Jenny and I made up and came up with this in 40 minutes. And then when it was time for the class to start... no one came... except two girls that were on the Dance Company who were there for support... but really.. no one came. So cancelled the class and taught the Dance Company girls today for fun. They loved the dance, and it feels good to dance. The dance really feels like me. I'm not much of a hip hop dancer. But I try :)
Enjoy.
